Anambra Police Arrest Suspect Linked to Murder of Lawmaker Justice Azuka

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 26-year-old robbery suspect allegedly connected to the brutal murder of Anambra lawmaker Justice Azuka. Azuka, a member of the Labour Party representing Onitsha 1 North Constituency, was kidnapped on December 24, 2024, and his decomposed body was discovered near the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.

The suspect was identified and captured by the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu during a major offensive operation in the Iyowa Odekp area of Ogbaru Local Government on December 8. The suspect, heavily injured during the arrest, confessed to being a leader of a criminal gang operating in Anambra and neighboring states.

The police recovered a local-made Beretta pistol and ammunition during the operation. Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, highlighted the suspect's criminal nature, noting his tattoos with inscriptions reflecting a hardened criminal mindset.

This arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the state and will aid further investigations to dismantle criminal syndicates.
