Akwa Ibom Police Rescue Two After Boat Sinks in Waterways

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully rescued two individuals after a boat sank along the Ibaka waterways in Mbo Local Government Area. The incident took place at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Thursday when a blue W23 speedboat marked “LET’S PRAY” was traveling from Oron to Cameroon with goods onboard.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, preliminary investigations revealed that the boat driver, Mr. Daniel, was attempting to adjust the vessel’s seacock to drain accumulated water when the boat began to take on more water due to waves generated by a passing vessel, ultimately leading to its sinking. The Marine Police Operational and Surveillance Patrol Team, which was patrolling the area, rescued Mr. Daniel and his conductor, Mr. Kani.
The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the Marine Police for their prompt action, which prevented loss of life. He urged boat operators and passengers to prioritize safety measures.
