Police Prevent Kidnapping, Seize Weapons in Akwa Ibom

On September 8, 2026, at approximately 6:05 AM, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in collaboration with the Marine Hunters, conducted a successful operation to thwart a planned kidnapping in the Oron Local Government Area. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Marine Police targeted a suspected criminal camp along the Calabar-Oron Channel.

During the operation, they recovered significant items, including one Jojeef English pump-action gun, two cartridges, a white rope suspected for criminal use, two speedboats, and three outboard engines of 200 horsepower, along with one 15-horsepower outboard engine. The police emphasized that this operation was part of their intelligence-led strategy to dismantle criminal networks exploiting the state's waterways.

Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare praised the operatives for their professionalism and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
