FUTA Student Favour Olaniyi Found Dead in Ondo State

On May 9, 2026, Favour Olaniyi, a 23-year-old 100-level student at the Federal University of Technology Akure, was discovered dead in a bush near the university's north gate in Akure, Ondo State. The circumstances surrounding Olaniyi's death remain unclear.

The Ondo State Police Command, led by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, has commenced an investigation, treating the case as a suspected suicide. A bottle containing a suspected poisonous substance was recovered from the scene, raising suspicions.

The university's Director of Corporate Communication, Adegbenro Adebanjo, expressed sadness over the incident, confirming that university security personnel alerted the police. The deceased's body was evacuated to the morgue for further examination, and the university has assured full cooperation with the investigation while providing support to affected classmates and informing the deceased's parents.
