Investigation Underway in FUTA Student's Suspected Suicide

On May 9, 2026, Olaniyi Favour, a 23-year-old 100-level student at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), was discovered lifeless in a bush area near the university's north gate. The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the suspected suicide case.

Detectives who visited the scene noted no visible marks of violence, and a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous substance was recovered. The deceased's body has been deposited in the morgue for further examination.

The university management expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident involving their student and stated that the university's security apparatus was promptly informed, leading to the dispatch of police and medical officials to the scene. The management urged young people to seek support and counseling during difficult times to avoid actions that could endanger their lives.
