Anambra Police Warn Residents Against Resisting Arrest

The Anambra State Police Command issued a warning to residents against resisting arrest, even if they believe the arrest to be unwarranted. In a statement released on Sunday by spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, the command advised the public to remain calm during arrest situations and to seek legal redress through established channels rather than confronting police officers.

The warning comes in light of increasing confrontations between residents and police during arrests, which have sometimes turned violent. Ikenga stressed that resisting arrest could lead to serious consequences, including injury, permanent disability, or even loss of life.

The command encouraged individuals to allow the arrest process to proceed peacefully and to report any allegations of misconduct through appropriate channels. Residents were reminded that they have the right to know the reason for their arrest and to request identification from officers involved.

The police urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement to foster better relations and ensure safety.
