Nigerian Police Reject N100M Bribe, Foil Railway Vandalism

On April 9, 2026, the Nigerian Police Force foiled a major railway vandalism syndicate, recovering materials valued at N400 million. The operation, led by the Special Tactical Squad and involving credible intelligence, resulted in the arrest of two suspects: 32-year-old Chisom Goodnew and 22-year-old Ahm Adamu in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The police intercepted a trailer truck carrying approximately 60 tons of vandalized railway track sleeper materials concealed in sacks of groundnut shell, which were being transported from Bauchi State to Ilorin, Kwara State. Preliminary investigations indicated a wider network behind the crime, with the truck driver reportedly contracted for N2.5 million to transport the stolen materials.

During the operation, the police rejected a bribe of N100 million aimed at compromising their efforts to secure the release of the suspects. Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu commended the operation, highlighting the courage, discipline, and incorruptibility of the officers involved.
