20 Suspected Railway Vandals Arrested in Nigeria

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced the arrest of 20 individuals suspected of vandalizing railway infrastructure nationwide. Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, disclosed that these arrests fall under the jurisdiction of the Railway Police Command, which is responsible for handling vandalism cases along the rail corridors.

Unyimadu explained that incidents of vandalism have been documented, and the number of arrests varies based on proper reporting. Last year, 20 people were arrested, with offenders facing prosecution and potential conviction if proven guilty in court.

Recent cases include the interception of a truck in January 2026 in Bauchi State, where five suspects were arrested for concealing railway materials under bags of chicken feed. Additionally, in March 2026, Bashiru Hafeez and Mobolaji Johnson were arrested at the Ebut Metta train station in Lagos for possessing 15 pandrol clips believed to have been removed from the railway line.

They have been arraigned and are awaiting further hearings.
