Leadership Contest Looms for UK Labour Party's Starmer

Keir Starmer, the current leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is facing a potential leadership contest as several rivals consider challenging his position. Notable figures include Wes Streeting, a 43-year-old MP and former health minister, who has expressed a desire to lead the party, citing a loss of confidence in Starmer.

Angela Rayner, the former Deputy Prime Minister, has hinted at a leadership bid following her resolution of tax issues that led to her departure from the government. Rayner, known for her left-wing stance and straightforward communication style, has been a prominent figure since being elected to Parliament in 2015.

Andy Burnham, the popular Mayor of Greater Manchester, is also expected to announce his candidacy, aiming to return to Parliament. Starmer, who became Prime Minister two years ago, is currently experiencing the lowest approval ratings among UK Prime Ministers at just 19%, according to a YouGov poll.
