Power Minister Threatens License Revocation for Underperforming DisCos in Nigeria

Nigerian Power Minister, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, blamed underperforming electricity distribution companies (DisCos) for the country's electricity failures. He threatened to revoke the operational licenses of DisCos whose performance does not improve by 2028.

Adelabu highlighted the inefficiency of DisCos as a major barrier to achieving uninterrupted power supply in Nigeria. With the power sector facing financial challenges and inadequate electricity supply, the government is preparing for a significant overhaul, focusing on technical competence and financial capacity of the companies to ensure national development.
