Obi Challenges Tinubu's Claims on Power Sector Progress

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has countered claims made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding improvements in Nigeria's power sector. Obi criticized the persistent electricity supply challenges, linking them to Tinubu's campaign promises made ahead of the 2023 elections, where he assured constant electricity within four years.

Despite nearly three years of Tinubu's administration, electricity supply remains unstable, averaging below 4,000 megawatts, which has drawn public concern. Obi noted that Nigeria's electricity consumption is among the lowest globally at 144 kWh per capita, compared to Africa's average of 617 kWh.

He referenced Tinubu's recent visit to Plateau State, where there was no electricity at the airport for ten minutes. In response, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu stated that ongoing reforms in the sector are beginning to yield results, with expectations of improved electricity generation levels.

However, public frustration continues as citizens endure prolonged outages, questioning the pace of progress in the power sector.
