Pregnant Woman Arrested for Aiding Kidnappers in Abuja

On June 11, 2026, Hauwa Shafiu, a heavily pregnant woman, was arrested by the FCT Police Command during an anti-kidnapping operation in the Paze Byazhin area of the Bwari Area Council, Abuja. The operation was part of a broader initiative that began on June 9, 2026, aimed at dismantling a criminal network involved in kidnapping activities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Preliminary investigations revealed that Shafiu was a logistics supplier and cook for a gang involved in kidnappings. Alongside her, two other suspects, Yahaya Abdullahi and Muham Yunusa, were identified.

The police recovered several items during the operation, including four motorcycles, 31 pieces of 500mg tramadol tablets, 10 pieces of 50mg tramadol tablets, N320,000 in cash, and five mobile phones. Following her arrest, Shafiu received medical attention and subsequently delivered a healthy baby while in police custody.

The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
