Premier League releases statement over Anthony Gordon’s red card against Liverpool

The Premier League has released a statement regarding Anthony Gordon's red card during the match between Newcastle and Liverpool. The Newcastle forward was initially shown a yellow card by referee Simon Hooper for a tackle on Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

However, after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, and Gordon was given a straight red card for serious foul play. The Premier League Match Centre confirmed the decision on social media, quoting Hooper's explanation that Gordon's challenge was reckless and made clear contact with Van Dijk's calf.

Despite the red card, Newcastle managed to secure a goal in the 100th minute of the game.
