Presidency Demands Probe of El-Rufai Over Wire-Tapping Claims

The Nigerian presidency has demanded a comprehensive investigation into former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai following his allegations of wire-tapping against National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. El-Rufai claimed during an interview with Arise News Channel that Ribadu's private telephone conversations were accessed, suggesting a collaboration with unnamed individuals to facilitate this wire-tapping.

Presidential spokesperson Mr. Bayo Onanuga described El-Rufai's remarks as serious and warranting thorough investigation, emphasizing that such actions pose a direct threat to national security. El-Rufai further alleged that the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has become a tool for the NSA, claiming Ribadu ordered arrests based on intercepted communications.

Onanuga highlighted the illegality of wire-tapping without a court order and the potential compromise of classified information, stressing that the government must address breaches of communication channels at the highest level to safeguard national security.
