Nigerian Presidency Rejects False Claims on Federation Project

The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed viral claims surrounding "Project True Federation," which suggested constitutional amendments to rename Nigeria as a unitary state and abolish Sharia law in the northern region. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga issued a statement on Thursday, urging Nigerians to disregard the entirely unfounded reports.

He described the purveyors of these claims as agents of destabilization and discontent, part of a dubious plot by desperate politicians to create national disaffection and stir political crises ahead of the general elections. Onanuga emphasized that constitutional amendments require serious legislative scrutiny and oversight, not the whims of the presidency or the National Assembly.

He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to focusing on economic reforms and delivering tangible benefits to Nigerians. Onanuga further cautioned against the consumption of divisive fake news, especially as political campaigns are set to begin in January 2026.
