Eight Kidnappers Arrested in Oyo State Rescue Operation

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu confirmed the successful rescue of abducted students and teachers from Oriir Local Government Area in Oyo State, where they had been held captive for eight weeks. The operation, conducted by security agencies including the Department of State Services (DSS), resulted in the arrest of eight kidnappers and the neutralization of others involved in the abduction.

Tinubu praised the heroic efforts of the military, DSS, and police, emphasizing that the operation was executed without collateral damage. He expressed regret over the anguish experienced by the victims and their families.

The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when heavily armed bandits attacked a local school, leading to nationwide outrage and prompting a strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Oyo State. Tinubu directed emergency agencies to collaborate with the Oyo State government to provide necessary medical support for the victims.
