Nigerian Army Progressing in Rescue of Kidnapped Students

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.

Waidi Shaibu, announced that the Nigerian Army is making significant progress in the ongoing rescue operation for 39 pupils and seven teachers kidnapped in Oyo State. This statement was made during a media interaction session in Port Harcourt on Saturday, part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day.

The victims were abducted on May 15 from a school in the Orir local government area of Oyo. Lt.

Gen. Shaibu expressed confidence that the operation would lead to the safe rescue of the victims and their reunion with their families.

He also noted that the Nigerian Army remains actively engaged in various operations across the country to address evolving security challenges, particularly in the northeast, where troops have recorded significant successes against insurgents.
