Tinubu's Administration Explains Fuel Subsidy Decision

The Presidency, represented by Special Adviser on Policy Communication Daniel Bwala, has articulated the reasons behind President Bola Tinubu's decision not to reinstate fuel subsidies in Nigeria. Bwala indicated that the previous subsidy arrangements were marred by significant fraud, primarily benefiting individuals and entities not representative of the ordinary Nigerian populace.

He emphasized that the administration's stance is not against the principle of subsidies, as the government continues to support sectors like healthcare and agriculture. Bwala pointed out that the removal of fuel subsidies has led to increased revenue for state governments.

He described President Tinubu's leadership style as flexible rather than rigid, suggesting that the administration remains open to considering targeted subsidy interventions in the future, depending on circumstances that may arise.
