Tinubu Refuses Fuel Subsidy Due to Industry Fraud Claims

The Presidency, through Special Adviser on Policy Communication Daniel Bwala, stated that President Bola Tinubu has declined to return fuel subsidies. In an interview with Channel Television, Bwala attributed this decision to the prevalence of fraud within the petroleum industry, which has historically favored non-Nigerians over Nigerian citizens.

He emphasized that the concept of subsidies is not inherently negative for government operations, citing that subsidies exist in various sectors, including agriculture. Bwala noted that the current administration aims to increase revenue without resorting to rigid policies, indicating that President Tinubu's leadership style is flexible.

He also mentioned that the government is open to borrowing as part of its economic strategy, distancing the administration from the notion that borrowing is detrimental.
