Benin's President Wadagni Meets Tinubu to Boost Trade

On a visit to Nigeria, President of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, met with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu in Abuja to enhance bilateral relations focused on trade, security, and economic cooperation. This meeting was Wadagni's first bilateral engagement since assuming office on May 24.

The discussions covered various topics, including industrial cooperation, energy, maritime security, and issues affecting the Gulf of Guinea region. Nigeria is Benin's largest trade partner, with an 809-kilometer border facilitating longstanding commercial and cultural ties.

Notably, Benin's formal exports to Nigeria increased by 90% in 2024, reflecting growing economic collaboration. Nigerian investors have shown increased interest in the Djigb industrial zone, and joint initiatives such as the joint border control post and the West African gas pipeline were cited.

The meeting was part of ongoing efforts by both governments to deepen economic engagement in the region.
