Tinubu Secures $500M Vaccine Partnership with Gavi

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with a delegation from Gavi, led by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sania Nishtar, at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting included Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Prof.

Taiwo Oyedele. President Tinubu praised Gavi as a vital partner in Nigeria's healthcare agenda, emphasizing the government's commitment to accelerating vaccine production as a strategic investment for health security in Africa.

Dr. Nishtar acknowledged Nigeria's leadership in health sector reforms and announced Gavi's commitment to provide over $500 million in support of vaccination programs over the next five years.

This funding aims to protect a generation of Nigerian children. Additionally, she introduced the $1.2 billion African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator to promote vaccine production across Africa, expressing confidence in Nigeria's potential to transition from a recipient to a contributor within the global vaccine alliance.
