Tinubu Declares Candidacy for 2027 Presidential Election

On Friday, President Bola Tinubu officially declared his intention to run for a second term in the 2027 presidential election while meeting with a delegation from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, led by CEO Sania Nishtar at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During this meeting, Gavi committed over $500 million to support vaccination programs in Nigeria over the next five years.

Tinubu expressed gratitude for Gavi's partnership and emphasized the importance of vaccine development and immunization for Africa's future. He also praised the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, for leading health sector reforms.

The announcement of Tinubu's candidacy follows comments from Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Keyamo, who dismissed the electoral prospects of opposition candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, suggesting that the 2027 election would be a "coronation" for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
