Tinubu Honors Prof. Shaffy Amuwo on 80th Birthday

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu celebrated Professor Shaffy Adeniyi Amuwo on the occasion of his 80th birthday, recognizing his extensive contributions to public health and minority communities. Tinubu noted that Amuwo received a commendation from the United States Congress in 2004 and inspired the creation of a Minority Scholarship Fund.

The President described Amuwo as a scholar and public intellectual dedicated to service and leadership. He highlighted Amuwo's role in developing the “Pipelines/Pathways to Health Professions” program, which has enabled thousands of minority students to pursue careers in health.

Additionally, Amuwo facilitated over $50 million in medical supplies to various African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa. Tinubu acknowledged Amuwo's contributions to public health infrastructure in Lagos State and his leadership within the Nigerian Muslim community in the U.S.

The President expressed personal admiration for Amuwo, wishing him continued health and joy.
