Tinubu Applauds Nigeria's Customs Model in AfCFTA Project

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the recognition of Nigeria's customs modernization program and commended the selection of a subsidiary of Bergmans Security Consultant and Supplies Limited for a 20-year, multi-billion-dollar AfCFTA Customs Modernisation Project. This project, to be executed through AfriTrade CMP Limited, will enhance customs processes, cargo tracking, border management, and trade-data exchange among African nations.

Tinubu emphasized that this development showcases Nigeria's ability to create homegrown solutions for the continent. He commended Bergmans, AfriTrade CMP Limited, Trade Modernisation Project Limited, the Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the Nigerian professionals involved.

AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene, during his visit to Nigeria, acknowledged the indigenous Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, as a model for Africa. The system, first piloted in October 2024, is integral to Nigeria's customs modernization alongside the National Single Window launched in March 2026.

Tinubu reiterated Nigeria's readiness to contribute to the AfCFTA's promise of facilitating trade across African borders.
