Tinubu Hosts New Beninese President Romuald Wadagni

On Monday afternoon, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria received the newly inaugurated President of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, in Lagos. Wadagni's visit followed his official inauguration on May 24, 2026, succeeding outgoing President Patrice Talon.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who subsequently escorted him to President Tinubu's private residence. The two West African leaders engaged in a closed-door session lasting approximately 30 minutes, focusing on reinforcing bilateral relations and regional security.

This meeting underscores the strategic importance of the alliance between Abuja and Porto Novo, particularly concerning trade and border security, as both nations share critical western borders and are interdependent in economic cooperation. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at Wadagni's inauguration ceremony in Porto Novo, affirming Nigeria's solidarity with Benin.
