Tinubu Hosts Benin's New President Romuald Wadagni

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria received the newly inaugurated President of Benin, Romuald Wadagni, at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos. This meeting, which lasted nearly 30 minutes, was Wadagni's first bilateral engagement with his Nigerian counterpart since taking office a week prior.

The details of their discussions were not immediately made public. Wadagni was accompanied by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during this visit.

He succeeded Patrice Talon, who was in office until May 24, 2026, following his victory in the presidential elections held on April 12. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Tinubu at Wadagni's inauguration ceremony in Benin Republic.

The two countries share a western border and are key partners in the ECOWAS region, focusing on cooperation in trade and security arrangements in the Gulf of Guinea. Tinubu previously served as the chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government from July 2023 to 2024.
