Archbishop Kanu Urges 2027 Contenders to Prioritize Nation

In an interview, Archbishop Samuel C. Kanu, Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church Nigeria, called on political contenders for the 2027 elections to prioritize the nation over personal ambition.

He emphasized the church's pivotal role in governance and the need for genuine repentance and selfless leadership to foster love for the country and promote peace and prosperity. Kanu highlighted that the church has historically been involved in politics, citing figures like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Herbert Macaulay as champions of Nigeria's democracy.

He criticized the current state of insecurity, attributing it to disgruntled politicians and calling for a collective effort to address the challenges facing the nation. Kanu stressed that true leadership must be rooted in justice and equity, and he urged the populace to engage actively in the political process to ensure that capable and honest leaders emerge for the betterment of Nigeria.
