Minister Pate Urges Private Sector Support for Health Financing in Nigeria

Minister Coordinating Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasized the importance of the private sector in health financing in Nigeria. He urged Nigerian diaspora and private sector players to support the government's efforts to establish a sustainable health financing system.

Prof. Pate highlighted that redirecting billion-dollar diaspora remittances towards health insurance premiums for families in Nigeria could enhance financial protection and economic growth.

The government aims to enroll at least 44 million citizens in health insurance by 2030, making it the largest risk pool in Africa. Additionally, initiatives like the Vulnerables Fund and free emergency obstetric services have already saved many lives.

The minister stressed the significance of investing in prevention, nutrition, and health promotion to address the increasing burden of diseases.
