Pro-Chancellors Call for AI Committees to Fund Universities

During the 8th biennial conference of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State Universities in Nigeria (COPSUN) held in Kano State, Prof. Ayodeji Omol, the chairman of the committee, urged both federal and state governments to establish committees dedicated to artificial intelligence and digital governance.

This initiative aims to drive responsible adoption of AI and ensure sustainable funding for universities in Nigeria. Prof.

Omol emphasized the need for universities to develop integrated digital strategies for financial management and data protection. He advised universities to seek endowments from stakeholders within society and stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in financial management.

The committee also recommended that state governors increase funding for state-owned universities and establish intellectual property and patent offices to transform research outputs into viable innovations. COPSUN reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening governance structures in state universities to maintain global competitiveness.
