Pro-Chancellors Advocate AI and Digital Governance in Universities

Pro-Chancellors in Nigeria are pushing for the adoption of artificial intelligence and digital governance within universities. This initiative was discussed during the 8th biennial conference held in Kano State, where the committee chairman, Prof.

Ayodeji Omol, emphasized the need for leadership in Nigerian universities to establish a committee focused on these technologies. The committee aims to drive responsible AI adoption and digital governance, ensuring that universities develop integrated strategies for financing academic processes and protecting data.

They called on both federal and state governments to sustain university education in Nigeria and advised universities to seek endowments beyond alumni contributions. The committee also highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in financial management and proposed the establishment of intellectual property and patent offices to transform research outputs into viable innovations.

They stressed the need for stronger collaboration between universities and industries to translate research into practical economic development.
