Pro-El-Rufai Group Hires US Lobbyists Amid Legal Issues

The El-Rufai Support Group Association (ERSGA) has announced its engagement with Vanguard Africa, a Washington D.C.-based international advocacy firm, to support former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in his ongoing legal challenges. The campaign aims to address what ERSGA describes as abuses of the rule of law and due process in Nigeria.

El-Rufai, characterized as a reformist and senior statesman with decades of public service, has been detained since mid-February over allegations related to corruption. The group categorically rejects the accusations from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and expresses alarm over procedural irregularities in his treatment.

Moham Salihu, a former governor, stated that El-Rufai's case reflects broader concerns about Nigeria's democratic institutions, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. ERSGA urges the U.S. government and international democratic institutions to closely monitor the situation and advocate for due process and judicial independence in Nigeria.
