El-Rufai Family Protests at DSS Over Detention Issues

The family and supporters of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai staged a protest at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja, expressing outrage over his continued detention for 91 days. They accused security authorities of violating a subsisting court order that mandates his custody under the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai's second wife, Asia, reported that he has been denied access to medical care and legal rights, despite a court order granting him unrestricted access to his lawyer and physician. During a court session presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, bail was granted but the matter was adjourned until 1 PM.

Asia El-Rufai highlighted the psychological pressure faced by the family, including constant surveillance and threats from security agencies. Lawal Adamu Usman, a senator representing Kaduna Central, criticized the stringent bail conditions imposed on El-Rufai, describing them as politically motivated.

The family demands his immediate return to ICPC custody in line with existing court orders.
