Governor Eno Advocates Procurement Reforms for Development

Governor Eno of Akwa Ibom State remarked on the importance of procurement reforms for sustainable development during a four-day retreat with federal permanent secretaries at the Government House in Uyo. The retreat, organized by the Bureau of Public Procurement and the Federal Civil Service, aimed to strengthen the procurement system and enhance budget implementation.

Governor Eno noted that the state saved 200 billion naira through rigorous evaluation of bids and cost estimations, allowing for the execution of major development projects without borrowing. He announced the establishment of a standalone ministry for science and digital economy to accelerate digital governance and improve transparency in public service processes.

Eno also mentioned that the administration inherited a liability of 111 billion naira dating back to 2012, of which 87 billion naira has already been paid. The retreat included participation from 33 federal permanent secretaries and was commended for its focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and job creation.
