Governor Alia Commits to Protecting Benue Residents

On Tuesday, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State visited Otukpo to express condolences to the community following recent attacks by suspected armed herders. The attacks, attributed to heavily armed Fulani herders, occurred early Sunday while community members were asleep, resulting in at least 18 deaths, including women and children.

During his visit, Governor Alia emphasized his obligation to protect the lives of the people in Benue State and urged residents to remain vigilant, identify suspicious movements, and alert relevant authorities to prevent further attacks. He reassured the community that the state government would not rest until peace was fully restored.

Additionally, he visited victims receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo, who sustained various degrees of injuries from the attacks. Alia also met with the paramount ruler of the Idoma people, Agaba Idu Elaigwu, and expressed his commitment to ensuring the safety of the state.
