Wike Urges INEC to Recognize Gombe as ADC Chairman

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, expressed his discontent with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to recognize Nafiu Bala Gombe as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). During a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike addressed the ongoing crisis within the ADC, highlighting that INEC did not acknowledge party members until a court matter was resolved.

His comments followed INEC's decision to remove the names of former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola from the party's official records. Wike stated that INEC's judgment should have recognized Gombe as the legitimate chairman and criticized the commission for taking sides in the party's leadership dispute.

Gombe is seeking a court declaration to affirm his position as the national chairman, while INEC has suspended recognition of factions within the party and will not monitor any congress organized by rival groups pending the court's final determination.
