Protests Disrupt Funeral in Jos Over Arrests Amid Killings

Protests erupted during a funeral service for victims of a recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, Plateau State, where 30 people were killed. Mourners, primarily women and youths, disrupted the service organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria to honor the deceased.

They demanded the unconditional release of three youths allegedly arrested by security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, during ongoing investigations. The protests led to a temporary halt of the funeral service until the situation was calmed by youth leaders.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang's Chief of Staff, Jeremiah Satmak, assured families of the government's commitment to uncovering the truth behind the attack and ensuring justice. The state government also announced a relaxation of the curfew in Jos North, allowing movement from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. while maintaining a dusk-to-dawn curfew.

The unrest followed a violent incident attributed to suspected bandits, raising concerns about community security and the actions of security forces.
