Plateau Women Protest Arrests, Block Burial of Attack Victims

In Plateau State, women led a protest to block the burial of 28 victims from a recent attack in Angwan Rukuba. The protest occurred on Tuesday, with women chanting and refusing to allow the mass burial ceremony to proceed until their demands were met.

They called for the unconditional release of youths arrested by security agents in connection with the attack. Rhoda Aliyu and Mathew Bulu were among the protesters, emphasizing that the detained youths were innocent.

The attack, which took place on Palm Sunday night, resulted in 28 fatalities and numerous injuries, with unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits. Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, labeling it a heinous act aimed at destabilizing the state, and assured residents of swift action against the perpetrators.

He also called for collaboration among traditional rulers, religious leaders, and security agencies to combat insecurity in the region.
