Plateau Women Protest Arrests, Block Mass Burial of Victims

On Tuesday, women from Angwan Rukuba in Plateau State protested against the arrest of three youths by military authorities, which occurred during an investigation into a violent attack that took place on Sunday. The protest halted plans for a mass burial of victims from the attack, as the demonstrators insisted that the burial should not proceed until the detained youths were released.

The situation escalated, leading to tensions among mourners gathered for the burial. The attack, attributed to unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits or ethnic militia, resulted in several fatalities and drew national attention.

In response to the violence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with stakeholders in the state, pledging to strengthen security measures. He announced plans to install 5,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras for 24-hour surveillance across Plateau State and increased military presence in the area to enhance security operations.
