PTDF Launches Training for Journalists on Oil Reporting

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) initiated a capacity-building program for journalists and media stakeholders in Lagos, aimed at improving reporting on Nigeria's oil and gas industry. Prof.

Shuaibu Aliyu, Executive Secretary of the PTDF, stated that the initiative is crucial for enhancing public understanding of the sector. He highlighted the media's strategic role in shaping public discourse and promoting transparency.

Aliyu's remarks were presented by Kay-Hambolu Dupe Bella, Head of Press and External Relations at PTDF. He noted that effective journalism in the oil and gas sector requires a solid grasp of technical, policy, and operational issues.

The PTDF aims to invest in more accurate reporting by strengthening journalists' understanding of the sector. Dr.

Victor Dare, Group Managing Director of Better Ways, emphasized the oil and gas sector's importance to Nigeria's economy, accounting for about 65% of government revenue and over 85% of export earnings, despite its small contribution to GDP.
