FG Enhances Support for Oil and Gas Training Initiatives

The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged stronger support for the Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria (OGTAN) to cultivate a world-class workforce for the oil and gas sector. This commitment was made by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), during his keynote address at the OGTAN Human Capital Development Conference and Expo held in Warri, Delta State.

Lokpobiri emphasized Nigeria's potential as a global investment hub, driven by reforms from President Bola Tinubu that have enhanced the country's attractiveness to international investors. He noted the necessity for professionals trained to meet global standards, with OGTAN's over 400 members expected to facilitate this training.

The minister pointed out the outdated training materials used by many educators in Nigerian institutions and stressed the importance of retraining trainers to prepare the next generation of industry professionals. The government's strategy to address the skills gap involves collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act.
