Civil Servants Demand Petrol Price Stabilization from Tinubu

Civil servants, under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), Trade Union Side, have issued an ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding the stabilization of the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, at N500 per litre. They expressed concerns in a letter to the president, highlighting that the current economic hardships are creating significant tension among workers and could lead to adverse situations.

This demand follows a call from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by President Joe Ajaero, for emergency palliatives and wage awards to alleviate the impact of rising petrol prices. Ajaero noted that increased transportation costs are likely to drive up prices of essential goods and services.

The JNPSNC stated that inflation and rising costs have eroded workers' salaries, affecting their ability to meet basic financial obligations. Efforts to confirm receipt of the letter from the Presidency were unsuccessful, and the JNPSNC is recognized as a negotiating body for public sector workers' wages and allowances.
