Sustainable Water System Project Launches in Lagos

The Optim Green Foundation is spearheading a project to create a sustainable community-owned water system in Isiwu Eginrin Ekun, located in the Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. This initiative aims to combat severe water shortages and the reliance on unsafe water sources, which expose families to waterborne diseases.

The project is designed to provide not only clean water infrastructure but also a long-term model for community ownership and sustainability. It is expected to be completed by December 2025, following an 18-month timeline.

The project faced a setback when USAID withdrew its support in early 2025, leading to a six-month pause. However, the Grundfos Foundation has since become the primary sponsor, with additional support from the Vitol Foundation and technical partners like Hydrogenesi and Naston Engineering.

The initiative reflects the urgent need for improved water, sanitation, and hygiene services in underserved communities across Nigeria.
