Quadri Aruna Retains Africa’s No. 1 Spot Despite Drop In World Ranking

Despite a drop in his world ranking to 33rd, Quadri Aruna has retained his position as Africa's number one table tennis player. Aruna's lead over Egypt's Omar Assar was maintained even after losing to Assar in the round of 64 at the WTT Europe Smash in Sweden.

His ranking is supported by points gained from previous competitions, including a 350-point finish at the 2025 ITTF African Cup in Tunis. Aruna faces increasing pressure to secure points in upcoming ITTF events to remain among the top 30 players in the world.

Other Nigerian players saw mixed results in the latest rankings update, with Matthew Kuti dropping four places to 200th, Abdulbasit Abdulfatai falling three places to 206th, and Olajide Omotayo slipping six spots to 212th. Among the women, Fatimo Bello maintained her 122nd ranking, while Ajoke Ojomu dropped to 158th.
