Expert Warns Nigerians Against Consuming Dog Meat to Prevent Rabies

On World Rabies Day, Nigerians are warned against consuming dog meat from unverified sources due to the risk of rabies transmission. President of Good Development Accountability Advocacy (GDAA), Chukwunazom Cyra Obi, emphasized the dangers posed by rabies, urging for routine dog immunization to prevent the spread of the disease.

The lack of awareness, low vaccination coverage, and weak response systems contribute to the challenges in eliminating rabies. Obi stressed the importance of dog vaccination as an effective preventive measure and called for nationwide sensitization campaigns on rabies prevention.

The expert highlighted the need for a stronger national response, including adequate budget allocation for dog vaccination and improved veterinary services to ensure public health safety.
