Katsina Governor Radda Signs Order Against Thuggery

On Tuesday, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State signed an executive order aimed at curbing the rise of street thuggery and gang violence in the state. This order, which targets the increasing incidents of violence and public disorder involving youth, particularly in urban areas, declares a zero-tolerance stance against lawlessness.

It establishes a legal framework to prevent, control, and prosecute criminal gangs, commonly referred to as "Kauray." The governor announced the creation of a multi-agency task force, which includes personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, alongside local government authorities. This task force is empowered to identify and dismantle criminal networks, conduct intelligence-driven operations, arrest suspects, ensure swift prosecution, and intensify surveillance in crime-prone areas.

Additionally, the governor approved the establishment of mobile courts to fast-track justice.
