Katsina Governor Radda Signs Order to Combat Thuggery

On Tuesday, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State signed an executive order to combat the rising cases of thuggery and gang violence in the state. The order aims to suppress miscreant activities and establish a legal framework to prevent, control, and prosecute criminal gangs, commonly referred to as "kauray." This initiative follows an increase in violence and public disorder involving youth, particularly in urban areas.

Radda declared a zero-tolerance stance against lawlessness and announced the creation of the Katsina State Kauray Thuggery Suppression Task Force, a multi-agency outfit comprising personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, along with local government authorities. The task force is empowered to identify and dismantle criminal networks, conduct intelligence-driven operations, arrest suspects, and ensure swift prosecution.

Additionally, the governor approved the establishment of mobile courts to expedite justice and enhance surveillance in crime-prone areas.
