ADC Requests Postponement of FCT Elections Due to Ramadan, Writes INEC

The African Democrat Congress (ADC) has written a formal letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requesting the postponement of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elections slated for February 21, 2026, citing the Ramadan fast. The letter, dated January 22, 2026, was signed by the party's National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.

The ADC highlighted that the election date coincides with Ramadan, impacting a significant portion of eligible voters in the FCT. In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Public Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, acknowledged the cultural and religious significance of the period and noted the need to protect the inclusivity of the electoral process.

The ADC emphasized its commitment to promoting democracy and ensuring that all eligible citizens can exercise their constitutional rights without constraints. The party expressed readiness to comply with due process and guidelines set by INEC, advocating for arrangements that prioritize citizen welfare and diversity to bolster public confidence in democratic institutions.
