ADC Rejects INEC's Revised Timetable for 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially rejected the revised electoral timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the upcoming 2026-2027 elections. The ADC's statement, signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, criticizes the timetable for containing provisions that they believe are designed to disadvantage opposition parties.

Specifically, the ADC points to the requirement for political parties to submit a comprehensive digital membership register by April 2, 2026, ahead of the primaries scheduled for April 23 to May 30, 2026. They argue that this creates an almost insurmountable hurdle for opposition parties, effectively excluding them from fielding candidates.

The ADC contends that the provisions in the Electoral Act 2026 are structured to strengthen the incumbent administration's position and undermine democratic competition. They call for scrutiny of the timetable and demand a fair electoral process, emphasizing that the current requirements favor the ruling party and threaten the integrity of Nigeria's democracy.
