Range Rover Launches Electric SUV Starting Over $200K

Range Rover has officially entered the electric SUV market with a new model priced from £154,070 (approximately $208,000) in Britain, while American buyers will see a starting price of $138,000 MSRP. The development of this electric vehicle took around ten years, with the announcement made in December 2023.

Engineers conducted extensive testing, including challenging conditions in Dubai, where prototypes were tested on the 300-foot Big Red sand dune. This led to the decision to switch to permanent-magnet motors and redesign parts of the electric drive system, adding about 18 months to the development timeline.

Matt Becker, JLR’s vehicle engineering director, stated that the defining characteristic of the Range Rover Electric is its performance across various surfaces, while also maintaining the model's "effortless comfort and refinement." The design retains the familiar upright shape and high driving position, with modifications made to the grille and bodywork for improved aerodynamics.
