REA Commissions Solar Mini-Grid in Kaduna, Powering 2,500 Residents

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has inaugurated a 100kWp solar mini-grid in Damau Rural Community, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, funded by the federal government. This project, part of REA's 2024 capital project nearing completion, aims to provide sustainable energy access to underserved areas.

The mini-grid is set to benefit 2,500 residents by powering households, small businesses, and public facilities. Additionally, it will electrify solar submersible boreholes, ensuring reliable clean water supply and reducing water scarcity, particularly easing the burden on women and children who no longer have to trek long distances for water.

Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the Managing Director and CEO of REA, highlighted the project's innovative approach to rural electrification, focusing on integrating energy and social infrastructure to meet community needs effectively.
